The video features an interview with photographer Graciela Iturbide at SFMOMA in 1990, during her first major US exhibition. She recalls the communities she encountered in Mexico and beyond, sharing how her dreams and nostalgia inspire her art. Her retrospective, "Graciela Iturbide: Between Two Worlds,' will be on view until November 29, 2026, showcasing over five decades of her work. Iturbide’s poetic photography captures the extraordinary in everyday life in Mexico—markets, festivals, traditions, symbols, birth, death, botanical gardens, and self-portraits—mainly in black and white, seeking moments where imagination, spirituality, and the uncanny meet. Though deeply rooted in Mexico, she also photographed in India, Madagascar, Italy, the U.S., and elsewhere, approaching each with curiosity and respect.
