The Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia (MAMU) in Bogotá presents Francis Alÿs, juegxs de niñxs 1999-2025, curated by Cuauhtémoc Medina and Virginia Roy. The exhibition brings together a selectioan from the audiovisual project developed by Belgian-Mexican artist Francis Alÿs, focused on documenting children’s games in different parts of the world.
The exhibition features 27 videos from a series of more than fifty works filmed across five continents. The pieces will be shown in the museum’s El Parqueadero gallery and on the second floor, where the installation creates an immersive environment through multiple screens.
Through scenes recorded in urban and rural settings, the project documents playful practices sustained autonomously by children, who create rules, resolve disagreements, and generate forms of social interaction without adult mediation. Among the works presented are variations of games shared across countries, including hopscotch, spinning tops, and games using small objects.
According to the curators, the archive seeks to preserve traces of cultural expressions that may disappear or undergo profound transformation in the future.
The exhibition also reflects on the changes affecting these traditions. Factors such as the reduction of public space for play, the rise of digital entertainment, and shifts in everyday life have altered customs passed down through generations.
The exhibition will be on view from April 23, 2026, to August 24, 2026.
