Located in the historical center of Rio de Janeiro, the building of eclectic architecture designed in 1908 by the architect Adolfo Morales de los Rios to host the National School of Fine Arts, heiress of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, was built during the urbanizations carried out by the mayor Pereira Passos in the then Federal Capital. Today it is the institution that owns the largest and most important collection of Brazilian art of the 19th century, concentrating a collection of seventy thousand items among paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures, objects, documents and books.
