Description

The MAVI was inaugurated on April 11th, 2001. The news of its opening was a total milestone in Chile, since it was the first time that a space with the purpose of showing a private contemporary art collection, was built and opened to the public. Ricardo Lagos Ecobar—then President of the Republic—as well as numerous persons from the art and culture world attended the Museum’s opening. The Infantil de Curanilahue Orchestra was in charge of the welcome music, and the mural by Roberto Matta installed in its facade, arrived just in time for the inauguration by Germana Ferrari, Matta’s widow.
