The colonial house that today occupies the Foundation Gilberto Alzate Avendaño originally belonged to the Viceroy Jose de Ezpeleta de Galdeano (1789-1797) and later to the last viceroy of the New Granada, gift Juan Samano (1754-1820).Daniel Ortega Ricaurte, in a publication of the Colombian Academy of History, Album of the sesquicentennial, narrates in a descriptive language, the history and first tenants of this property, like that of others that surround the Historic Center of the old district of La Candelaria.
