Jeune Création is the successor of Jeune Peinture, created in 1949 by Paul Rebeyrolle. Since 1950, this fair offers possibilities that answer to the lack of exhibition spaces open to young artists and is an alternative to the mainstream art market and to public institutions.

Between the cultural circuit dominated by the communist party, the growing number of commercial galleries and the elitist Parisian fairs showing mainly abstract art, a space for young figurative painters is missing. Indeed, a debate dominates the art world at the time on the question of figuration or of abstraction in painting.

« The non-profit organization Jeune Peinture » is officially created March 9th, 1953. This name is kept until 1999.

After the creation of the non-profit organization, a growing interest is given to Jeune Peinture, the amount of work done and the utility of the project are more and more acknowledged, notably by the city of Paris who decides to have the fair take place, for the first time in 1954, at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.
