After more than 13 years working together, the Louis Vuitton company has announced the end of its relationship with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, as it did previously with the American designer Marc Jacobs, who was for sixteen years (1997 – 2013) a brand leader, collaborating with several creatives to give the brand a contemporary identity. Takashi Murakami brought a decidedly Pop identity to the Vuitton brand, and many of his projects, such as the one at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in 2009, fused art with fashion in exceptional ways. The Vuitton Company has worked with other artists as well. In 2014, for its 160th anniversary, it collaborated with Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, and Yayoi Kusama, among others.
