For the second consecutive year, the Fundación Sara Modiano for the Arts has granted the Sara Modiano Award, a recognition that aims at encouraging young artists in Colombia. In this edition of the Award, the El Cuerpo Habla art group was recognized for their performance titled Carga-Montón, an artistic proposal never before shown that will be presented in Bogotá on August 20, 2015. With this work the artists wanted to: "'colonize through art' as we make our way from the Universidad Nacional to Bolivar Square, accompanied by several naked bodies thrown on a cart and motionless for an indefinite period." For reasons of public safety, the Fundación Sara Modiano for the Arts teamed with the Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño (LAM), who invited the group to present a retrospective exhibition titled "Art, Body and City," which will remain open from August 5 through August 30. The show offers a compilation of the performances created by the group during more than five years of sustained work. The members of the group are, for the most part, students from the Universidad de Antioquia who have been dedicated to the artistic profession for more than 10 years. They are: Nora Gabriela Galvis O. (coordinator of the Carga-montón project), Evelyn Joan Loaiza-Quinceno, Juan Felipe Orozco-Posada, Gabriel Jaime Correa, and María Victoria Serna-Henao. For this project they will have the support of artists from Bogota invited by them. The Sara Modiano Award is a private initiative founded by the three sons of the artist from Barranquilla, Sara Modiano. The event seeks to promote the career, both nationally and internationally, of a Colombian artist under the age of 35. In addition to awarding the winner economic support to develop a specific art project, the award also grants the winner access to a mixed panel of mentors during the creation process and to an exhibition space in which to show the final work. The Fundación Sara Modiano for the Arts is supported by a panel of judges formed by professionals with extensive nationally and internationally recognized trajectories, including: Celia Birbragher, Ella Cisneros, José Roca, Alejandro Martin, María José Arjona, Óscar Roldán-Alzate and Tatiana Rais. The winner of the Sara Modiano Award is selected by means of a private call led by the previous panel of judges. For this second edition of the Sara Modiano Award, international curators Sophie Goltz (based in Germany and Austria) and Julia Draganovic (based in Germany) were invited to participate in the final selection of the winner. The retrospective exhibition "Art, Body and City" by the El Cuerpo Habla art group will be presented at the Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño (in the Salón Cabeza de Ratón) located at Calle 10 # 3-16 Bogota, Colombia.
