Rubens. The Triumph of the Eucharist

The Museo Nacional del Prado presents until June 29 of 2014 Rubens. The Triumph of the Eucharist, an exhibition curated by Alejandro Vergara. Circa 1625, the infanta Isabel Clara Eugenia, governess of the Spanish Netherlands, commissioned Rubens with the design of a series of twenty tapestries for the Convent of Las Descalzas Reales in Madrid, the place where the works still remain. All painted on panel, they also share the same theme, The Eucharist, the central dogma in Catholicism that was championed by the infanta. The Museum exhibits 11 of them. Museum visitors can attend a free brief educational talk about the exhibition. The goal of that event is to be able to provide the visiting public with essential cues to better appreciate and understand the works that are part of the exhibition. Additionally, the exhibition is accompanied by 5 conferences headed by panelists including Anne Wollet, Alejandro Vergara, Ana García-Sanz, José de la Fuente and María Antonia López. Rubens. The Triumph of the Eucharist is organized with the support of the Fundación IBERDROLA and the collaboration of The Getty Foundation.
