Passport Returned to Chinese Artist Ai Weiwei

After four years, and following his imprisonment without charges being brought against him, Chinese Artist Ai Weiwei has been given his passport back by the Chinese government. Not having the document has prevented Ai Weiwei from traveling. The announcement was made by the artist himself via Instagram, where he published a photo of himself, with the passport in his hand, and with the following message, "Today, I recovered my passport." He had been protesting the seizing of his passport by placing a bouquet of fresh flowers every day in the basket of a bicycle outside his Beijing study, as a symbol of his right to travel freely. He documented this daily symbolic action for 600 days on Instagram. Ai Weiwei plans to travel to Germany, to visit his son, and to London, where he will present a solo exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts.
