Miami Arts Non-Profit Launches WaveMaker Grants and Alternative Educational Platform

research.art.dalogue (r.a.d), an educational platform launched by Miami-based non-profit Cannonball, is now accepting applications for its inaugural semester, Spring 2015. The semester has been organized around the rubric Tides and Flows, in order to address the intersection of environmental instability and financial acceleration around which contemporary cities, like Miami, are being structured. Applications can be found at www.cannonballmiami.org r.a.d is open to everyone and draws from a long tradition of informal but rigorous pedagogical initiatives. A non-degree granting program, it offers a number of courses and seminars by a distinguished faculty of practitioners in the cultural fields and the social sciences. It is driven by an effort to develop a broad knowledge base for participants interested in working outside traditional disciplinary boundaries. Less a skill-based "school" in the traditional sense, it is a forum to engage in significant dialogues around contemporary realities in the cultural sphere and beyond it, and to develop projects that shed light on the dynamics that are organizing present-day urban and global configurations. The program's "pilot" semester began in September with Eduardo Abaroa's discussion of issues in contemporary Mexican art and culture. Courses and seminars were also offered by Jose Falconi and Rainer Ganahl. Faculty for Spring 2015 include Diann Bauer and Suhail Malik, Rozalinda Borcila and Brian Holmes, Peter Fend, and Molly Hartung-Zuckerman. Although r.a.d does not assist with visas, travel, or housing, national and international students are invited to apply. Cannonball is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3), arts organization dedicated to supporting artists, innovative forms of cultural production, and education to advance critical discourse and understanding of contemporary art practice. Based in downtown Miami, Florida, Cannonball's artist-centric values are mirrored in its experimental programs, resources, and opportunities that respond to the needs of today's artists and reflect our efforts to better understand the nuances and textures of South Florida.
