Latin American Art. A Look at the Colección Costantini

Until April 2 of 2017, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid presents "Latin American Art. A Look at the Colección Costantini," an exhibition that was part of Argentina's participation as guest country of the recent ARCO 2017. Curated by art critic and academic Estrella de Diego, the exhibition consists of thirteen works by Argentinean artists Lucio Fontana, León Ferrari, Xul Solar, Víctor Grippo, Lidy Prati, Yente; as well as photographers Grete Stern and Annemarie Heinrich. The works come from the private collection of Argentinean collector and philanthropist, Eduardo Costantini, founder and president of the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA). The painting Baile en Tehuantepec (Dance in Tehuantepec, 1928) by Diego Rivera is presented for the first time as part of the Colección Costantini. It is the most important piece by the Mexican master in a private collection and one of the largest canvases that he ever painted. Not exhibited in Latin America for over thirty years, this work was acquired by Eduardo Costantini for a record-breaking price for a Latin American work of art. This is the first time that this work by Rivera is shown in Spain. The exhibition has been jointly organized by the Real Academia, the Ministry of Culture of Argentina, and the MALBA.
