Goncalo Ivo

Río de Janeiro, RJ, 1958 Painter, water colorist, illustrator and sketchiest, Gonçalo Ivo, son of writer Ledo Ivo, has lived surrounded by artists since childhood. He begins his studies in 1975 as the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, under the orientation of Aluíso, Carvao and Sérgio Campos Melo. He graduates with a degree in architecture from the Universidad Fedeal Fluminense and between 1984 and 1986, he teaches at the Museum of Modern Art, where he also works as an illustrator and visual programmer. Present in a variety of individual and collective exhibits in Brazil and elsewhere, his participation in the Salon Carioca de Arte (1984) and in several exhibits of the School of Visual Arts of Parque, are worth noting because of their outstanding quality. In 1988, Federico Morais publishes Gonçalo Ivo: tres identidades (Gonçalo Ivo: three identities); in 1999 the artists exhibits in Grenoble, France, the Project Fachadas imaginaries (Imaginary Facades) and in 2000 he realizes the exhibit O tempo das árvores (The time of the trees) en Sao Pablo and Paris, when presenting the book with the same title. Linked to the idea of a sensible geometry, Gonçalo Ivo traduces, synthetically, using the attention given to the subject of his paintings, a special luminosity, noticed not only by the artist¿s sensibility, but by his lyrical imagination as well.
