As part of the celebration of Cuban culture organized by the City of New York this spring, an exhibition will be inaugurated on May 27 at New York¿s Metropolitan Pavilion entitled Cuban Visions. It is a thorough exhibition of contemporary Cuban art, curated by Mailyn Machado and Yandro Miralles. Their achievements in the international art scene¿as well as the cultural significance these have in Cuban culture¿where the parameters taken into account form the selection of the artists who participate in the exhibition. This collective show will project a coherent perspective based on a group of 26 prominent artists, most of whom live on the island and propose works created in several mediums that showcase the wide-ranging spectrum of the contemporary visual arts in Cuba, as well as the life in this Caribbean country. The selection of approximately 50 artworks included in Cuban Visions addresses historic, economic, political, social, traditional, racial-racist-sexual, and religious themes. This selection also aims at portraying the culture and reality of Cuba through the lens of contemporary art, while transcending political differences in favor of cultural traditions, through the creation of new dialogues between Cuban and U.S. artists interested in achieving a deeper understanding of life in Cuba. The exhibition will remain open to the public until June 1 and will include several artistic approaches such as installations, photography, painting, video, sculpture, and engraving. Among the artists who will participate are: Luis Enrique Camejo, Raúl Cordero, Carlos Estévez, Antonio Eligio Fernández (Tonel), Adonis Flores, José Manuel Fors, José Emilio Fuentes, Aimee García, Rocío García, Glenda León, Reynier Leyva-Novo, Jorge Luis Marrero, Cirenaica Moreira, René Peña, Marta María Pérez, Eduardo Ponjuan, Ángel Ramírez, Sandra Ramos, René Francisco Rodríguez, Esterio Segura, José Vincench, and José Ángel Toirac, among others.
