An art show with historical intent

On the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, the Leila Mordoch Gallery organized an exhibition of works by French photographer André Chabot. The show pays tribute to the thousands of American, European, Asian, and African war dead buried in cemeteries in several countries under the slogan "Killed in Action" or "Fallen in the Field of Honor". Chabot, the grandchild of a surviving World War I soldier, decided to visit these cemeteries in search of tombs and monuments that stand out for their atypical character. His black and white photographs connect themes such as how different societies use sculpture to represent their combat dead. An interesting testimonial, of historical and artistic character. Chabot has devoted himself to funerary photography and has more than 180,000 photographs on the topic. The show can be viewed through August 31st, 2014.
