In 2016 the Museo Bolivariano de Arte Contemporáneo celebrates three decades of existence. In this period, this cultural institution has strengthened its mission to preserve and promote its historic legacy through artistic, educational, and cultural processes reflected on initiatives that consolidate its social commitment. The museum was founded by Armando Villegas inspired on the principles of unity left by Simón Bolívar and expressed at the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, the institution's latest address and a historic place that gives life to a space for cultural diffusion in the Caribbean and Colombian region. The celebrations began in recent days with an event in which the following individuals were recognized: Ángel Loochkartt (artist); Carlos Chacín (artist); Cristo Hoyos, curator of the Museo Zenú de Arte Contemporáneo (MUZAC) in Montería; Wilmer Martínez, director of the Network of Museums of the Universidad del Magdalena; the Fundación Carnaval of Barranquilla and its director, Carla Celia; Jairo Donado, executive director of CAJAMAG; Telecaribe and its manager, Juan Manuel Buelvas; Periódico Arteria and its director, Nelly Peñaranda; Colegio Rafael Reyes de Santa Marta; and, Elsa Travecedo, the head guide and secretary of the museum. To commemorate the occasion, the museum also offers a special program that includes an exhibition that pays homage to the pictorial legacy of Luis Caballero. This show includes 69 works among drawings, sanguines, charcoals, and oils. The exhibition displays portraits on paper that depict prominent figures, headless and without extremities; images that generate the ambiguous sensation of not knowing whether one is before a body that suffers or one that feels pleasure. The celebration activities of the 30 years of the Fundación Museo Bolivariano de Arte Contemporáneo Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino is supported by the Colombian Ministry of Culture and its Cultural Agreement program and the City Hall of Santa Marta.
