The First Asunción Biennial, titled "Cry for Freedom - Sãso sapukái" and organized by the El Cabildo Cultural Center and the Asunción Biennial Foundation (FUBA, in its Spanish acronym), will be held October 1st through 31st. The biennial curators are Osvaldo González Real (Paraguay), Dannys Monte de Oca (Cuba), and Royce W. Smith (USA). Visual arts works, public-space interventions, roundtable discussions, concerts, and exhibitions will fill Asunción, the capital or Paraguay. Among the participants are Luis Felipe Noé (Argentina), Francis Alÿs (Mexico-Belgium), Regina Jose Galindo (Guatemala), Monica Millan (Brazil), Lucas Arruda (Brazil), as well as Adriana Gonzalez, Aldo Gulino, Betina Brizuela, Celso Figueredo, Flavio Giménez, Claudia Casarino, Félix Toranzos, and Ana Carina Aranda, among other Paraguayan artists. "Hand in hand with a team of dreamers we have been able to bring forth this project, which will situate Paraguay in the contemporary scene," says Margarita Morselli, President of FUBA. "The works on exhibit will promote awareness of the arts as the best way to communicate ideas, and the public will have access to exhibitions of the highest aesthetic value both for enjoyment and learning."
