At the recently finalized impressionism and modern art auctions at Christie’s in May 7th the piece Donaide, by the sculptor Constantin Brancusi, reached a selling price of $18.2 millions. The sculpture, a bronze golden head inspired in the model Margit Pogany, has become an auction record for the artist. The selling price is the highest one ever reached by a sculpture sold at an auction. The piece was sold to an anonimous bidder, by telephone, at $8.2 millions over the highest estimate of $10 million. The elegant and stylized head had been placed in the market recently. It formerly belonged to Catherine Graham, the deseased Washington Post’s owner, whose parents had bought it directly from the artist in 1914.
