The exhibition of contemporary Colombian and Dominican art titled "Gray Zones: Urban Nuances in the Global Era" at the Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes will be on display from July 22 to September 25. With the support of SURA, the exhibition stems from the cultural exchange between the Museo de Antioquia and the Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes. In this manner, the exhibition "Gray Zones: Urban Nuances in the Global Era," which will travel from the city of Medellin to Santiago de Los Caballeros, is a contemporary Colombian art exhibition that, in the exhibition spaces of the Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes, establishes dialogues with works by Dominican artists. The name of the exhibition draws from the unique nature of spaces found in urban areas: gray zones whose tonal range varies and transforms in the same manner in which concepts like territory, implicit rurality, house and home do—within the urban contexts of Colombia and the Dominican Republic and expressed on other global realms where some of the exhibiting artists have developed their works. Under the curatorship of Nydia Gutiérrez, curator of the Museo de Antioquia, and Sara Hermann, visual arts expert at the Centro León, the traveling exhibitions center on four themes: "The Affective Trace that Creates Territories," "The City as Migratory Moment," "Disillusion with Science and Technology," and "The Symbolic Power of Being Together." In this same manner, the works center on urban habits and the bonds created between elements of an affective, cultural, environmental and communal nature, and the, mostly unfortunate, contradictions and transformations generated by progress. Participating Artists From Colombia: Miguel Ángel Rojas, Libia Posada, Abel Rodríguez, Fredy Alzate, Felipe Arturo, Natalia Giraldo, Víctor Muñoz, Colectivo NoMaNaDa, Edwin Monsalve, Juan Fernando Herrán, Cristina Castagna, Grupo Utopía, Simón Uribe, Natalia Castañeda, and Colectivo El A.K.A. From Dominican Republic: Leo Núñez, Polibio Díaz, Tony Capellán, Jorge Pineda, Joiri Minaya, Raúl Tamayo-Morilla, and Citlally Miranda. This collaborative exhibition between the Museo de Antioquia and the Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes is sponsored by Seguros SURA, the Fundación Eduardo León Jimenes and Cervecería Nacional Dominicana. The program of activities that runs concurrently with the exhibition includes roundtables with artists, specialized conferences, salons, guided visits, and free admission days with family activities. On July 22, the first day of the exhibition, admission will be free.
