Located in the Spanish town of Quesada, the monographic museum dedicated to painter Rafael Zabaleta, the Museo Zabaleta announces its call for the 41st International Painting Competition that pays tribute to the Spanish painter. The call is open to artists from around the world and offers three prizes: the first prize, known as the "Rafael Zabaleta" Prize, consists of 7,000 euros; the second prize, known as the "Rafael Hidalgo de Caviedes" Prize, offers a purse of 3,500 euros; and the third prize, known as the "José Luis Verdes de la Riva" has a purse of 1,500 euros. Each prize is also accompanied by a plaque. Each participant may enter no more than two works centered on any theme and created using any technique. The works must not be under 100 cm (39.4 inches) at their shortest side, or over 250 cm (98.4 inches) at their longest side. Participants must submit between June 16 and July 15 of 2011 a closed envelope that includes: the application form (available at the Museo Zabaleta¿s homepage), C.V., a copy of the person¿s ID document, and a photograph (or photographs) of the work(s) entered in the competition. The original works will subsequently be presented at the museum, from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 2 PM and from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Plaza Cesáreo Rodríguez-Aguilera No. 5, Ayuntamiento de Quesada. The works selected by the respective juries will be exhibited from August 14 through August 28 of this year at the alternative exhibitions area of the museum. The winning artists will be announced on July 23, 2011, and their works will become part of the patrimony of the municipality, which will retain the ownership of the works from then on.
