14th Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos National Painting Prize

The Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos and Ámbito Cultural of El Corte Inglés, announce the opening of their call for participation in the 14th Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos National Painting Prize open to Spanish and foreign artists under the age of 40 who reside in Spain.

Candidates may choose any theme or technique to complete their works. Only one work—never before entered in a competition—per candidate will be accepted. The painting must measure at least 100 cm × 100 cm and no more than 200 cm × 200 cm on any of its sides. All works must be framed with strips.

The event offers a First Prize purse of 6,000 euros, and two Second Prize purses of 3,000 euros each. The author who wins First Prize must agree to develop a monographic exhibition of his/her recent work within the period of a year that will be shown at the Ademuz Espai d'Art of El Corte Inglés C.C. Ademuz.

The jury panel will include the participation of members from the Painting Department of the Real Academia de San Carlos along with two other persons; among these, the President of the Real Academia who will preside over the jury panel.

The deadline for all applications is April 16, 2013. Candidates must also enclose with their applications a copy of their national identification card or passport, Curriculum Vitae (including email address and mobile phone number), a dossier of his/her artistic trajectory, and a color photograph of the work that will be entered in the competition. The paperwork will be presented to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos in Valencia (San Pío V, 9 Valencia-46010).

Once informed of the results, the candidates selected will have until May 18, 2013 to present their works.

Participants may send their work through a delivery service of their choosing and they will assume any costs or responsibility associated with it. All works must be clearly labeled on their back with the following information: name of the artist, age, address, phone number, price and title of work.

The three works awarded, including Second Prizes, will become part of the funds of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos and they will remain in the Museo de Bellas Artes in Valencia.
