Fourteenth National Conference on the History of Women Centro Argentino de Investigadores de Arte

The Centro Argentino de Investigadores de Arte is now accepting the submission of résumés to participate in the "18th Thematic Roundtable. Femininities in images, actions, and exhibitions: the production and dissemination of images with political content from the context of Latin American Feminist Art," to be held on the occasion of the Fourteenth National Conference on the History of Women in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from July 29 to August 1, 2019. The roundtable proposes the intersection of two disciplinary perspectives: History and the History of Art, applied to cultural mechanisms centered on images, actions, and exhibitions, particularly those representations of the diverse types of femininities created for criticism and social transformation. The central focus is the analysis of the production of these representations from the perspective of Latin American feminist art and its emergence in different spaces, driven by political motivations pertaining to social change; namely, in spheres that range from museum exhibitions, the activation of artistic activisms, campaigns that incorporate visual resources on streets and other public places, and protest performances; to the different approaches in the collection, exhibition, and patrimonialization of images. Regarding this, we will focus the gaze on the intentions and objectives of denouncing inequalities, oppressions, and injustices towards the different kinds of femininities proposed by Latin American artists. When we refer to the category of "art" we do so in a broad sense that includes visual and performance proposals by artists who have been consecrated by the market and the critics, as well as street and popular art by artists whose creations intervene the public space to stir the minds of viewers in specific historical contexts in the heat of social debates, tensions, denouncements, demands, etc. Candidates are invited to submit proposals that address the various manifestations in which feminism bursts into the visual political space in the form of theoretical papers (preferably those that contain a combination of matrices; intersections of different disciplines in the field of Social Sciences) that explore: the politicization of feminine images, the forms and strategies for entering the collective visual space, management policies for art exhibitions in which women and femininities strive to find their place, and the issues that women artists and curators must face to realize such exhibitions. We are interested in discussing the role of women in the creation of collections, exhibitions, and the museographic undertaking in general, approaching feminism as a way to also transform the communication space between creators and the public. Proposals must be emailed between August 20 and October 22 of 2018 to: pafogelman@yahoo.com.ar taliabermejo@gmail.com Instructions available at: https://fh.mdp.edu.ar/encuentros/index.php/historiadelasmujeres/jnhm2019
