14th Cali International Arts Festival

The 14th edition of the Cali International Arts Festival will be held from September 17¿27. It is an encounter between the arts and film that is organized by the Association for the Promotion of the Arts (Proarte, its acronym in Spanish) with the support of the Santiago of Cali City Hall and the Ministry of Culture. The festival features special groups and guests beyond the national level, including countries such as Mexico, a nation that brings the theatrical work El Automovil Gris (The Grey Automobile), and Argentina, which presents Mundo Mudo (Mute World). Other invited countries include Venezuela ¿ represented by the poet Rafael Cárdenas ¿ and Chile, which features poet Pedro Lastra. With respect to the visual arts, La Tertulia Museum of Modern Art will exhibit Laberintos del Rostro ¿ Paisajes de la Conciencia (Labyrinths of the Face ¿Landscapes of the Conscience) presented by the Embassy of France and curated by Isabelle de Mountfumat. Casa Proartes will exhibit Ciudades Oxidadas (Rusted Cities), the paintings and visual work by Master David Manzur, based on the poem by Juan Gustavo Cobo-Borda entitled El Beso de Dios (The Kiss of God). The exhibit Fama Popular de Lujo (Deluxe Popular Fame) will be presented at the Comfandi Cultural Center, and the exhibit by Catalina Holguín will be held at the Colombian-French Alliance. The world of dance is also represented by Délit de Fuite from France, and by Colombian dance groups such as L¿Explosé, among others. In literature, round tables will be held on the following: film and literature, with the participation of Colombians Víctor Gaviria, Carlos Moreno, and Roberto Rubiano; television and literature, with the participation of actor Alejandra Borrero, and criticism as a literary genre, with the participation of writers and critics Hugo Chaparro-Valderrama and Julio César Londoño. Because the event centers around the Seventh Art, video projections and films will be accompanied by round tables at several venues in the city, including the Municipal and Jorge Isaacs Theaters, the Cali Cultural Center, the Sala Beethoven and other prominent venues. The Festival will be present at universities, neighborhoods, and open spaces, in order to attract the largest possible audience.
