The call for the 14th International Competition "Manolo Valdés" Art Exhibition 2013 will remain open until August 7 of this year. The call is open to artists of any nationality and condition. Candidates may submit a single painting or sculpture that covers any theme and that is rendered with any technique. Any works that have been previously awarded in any other competition or call will not be accepted.
The works submitted must measure a minimum of 100 x 81 cm and no more than 200 cm on any of its dimensions. They also cannot exceed 50 kg. The paintings must be mounted on a stretcher frame or on any other solid support and cannot be covered with glass.
Candidates may present their works personally at the city council of Altura during office hours, or send it to that same address with prepaid return shipping, in appropriate packaging and with instructions to mount the work, if necessary. A number 1 label must be attached to the work. A number 2 label that contains all personal and contact information—including a photocopy of the government issued ID, the title of the work, technique used and a brief curriculum—will be included within the packaging in a sealed envelope. A number 3 label will be kept as an extra copy for the author.
Two prizes—noncumulative or fractional—will be granted in the following manner:
New awards may be announced after this publication in the event that new sponsors are willing to participate. These awards will be published at the homepage of the City Hall of Altura: www.altura.es
The jury's decision will be publicly announced in no more than 10 days after the deadline to submit all the works and the winners will be directly informed.
The artists awarded will not be able to participate or receive the same or lesser award during the two subsequent editions of the "Manolo Valdés" Award.
The winning works will become property of the Altura City Hall and part of an art collection that will eventually serve for the creation of the Museo Municipal Manolo Valdés. Likewise, the event reserves all rights over the works, reproduction included.
The works selected will be exhibited at the Sala de Exposiciones Manolo Valdés and will be published in a catalog of the exhibition that will include color photographs of all the works in the show. The inauguration of the exhibition is scheduled for September 14 and it will remain open to the public until September 29, 2013.
