10th Havana Biennial

More than 200 artists from 43 countries will gather at the 10th Edition of the Havana Biennial to take place in Havana, between March 27 and April 30, 2009. The central theme will be integration and resistance in the face of the global era. With this, Edition the Biennial will celebrate twenty five years since its foundation. It will pay homage to certain artists who have contributed to the development of Latin American art, such as León Ferrari, Fernell Franco, Antonio Ole, Sue Williamson, Wilfredo Lam, and Raúl Martínez. Some countries that have submitted projects are México, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba, South Africa, Niger, and Zimbabwe; other proposals will also be presented by Italy, China, Korea, Japan, and Spain. Additionally, for the first time since this event began, a proposal by Alaska will be exhibited. In addition to the exhibits, the event will include a theoretical encounter and video and documentary screenings, as well as workshops with Cuban artists including Tania Brugueras, a well-known creator of installations and a performance artist.
