World Monuments Fund ?WMF? the alert list of some world monuments.

WMF is a non-for-profit organization created in 1965 in New York, for the preservation of the historical, artistic and architectural patrimony of humanity. The organization has recently published an alert list for 2004 including 100 of the most endangered World Monuments. The intention of this effort is to call for international attention on these places and collect funds for the protection of these universal symbols of the history and culture of human kind. For the first time, this year the program will include regions such as the Antarctica, Australia, Ecuador, Finland, Palestinian territories, Paraguay and Trinidad y Tobago amongst others. Each place on the list offers information on the people who created the monument. The list also includes several modern places, like homes or industrial and engineering facilities. Within the group of homes, Ennis Brown¿s is to be noted. It was built by Frank Lloyd Wright and is located in California. Among the engineering category, the list points out the area around the Panama Channel, now threatened by urban development. The endangered monuments list includes the Nimrud and Nineveh Palaces near Mosul in Iraq. These are the only remaining Assyrian palaces in the world, containing high quality sculptures and paintings. The Iraq war summed up to all the past centuries of plunder, making it imminent to publish and inventory of all sculpture decorations and other goods. For further information please visit www.wmf.org
