The award recognizes the dialogue between Colombian-French photographer Karen Paulina Biswell and German designer Société Angelique in the search for a sustainable fashion framed in recognition of femininity and nature.
The installation develops the broad relationship between photography and fashion but places it in contemporary themes. Inspired by Karen Paulina Biswell's "Ellas" series, a new portrait of femininity and its relationship with nature, Société Angelique expanded its use of sustainable materials and designs, creating sculptures in the form of dresses, skirts, and coats out of organic silk. Each sculpture relates to one of the images in the Ellas series. The transparent material used allows not only to recreate the delicate and light atmosphere, the alphabet of Karen Paulina Biswell's photography but also refers to the need to make the production processes transparent and visible to consumers in the face of the climate crisis.
Strike a Pose initiative with state and metropolitan support seeks to position Düsseldorf and Cologne as the center of fashion and art production in Germany. For Jorge Sanguino, co-founder of Wildpalms, the award implies recognition in Germany for the quality of the aesthetic approaches of Latin American art. "It makes us happy that a gallery of a Colombian, with a Colombian artist, has been awarded in a country where Latin American art is just beginning to be collected, studied, and appreciated."
