Position Available for Curator with Experience in Contemporary Art at the Whitney Museum of American Art

The collections and exhibitions at the Whitney Museum are based on works from the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries, particularly works by living artists. The entire collection of approximately 18,000 works includes pieces from the first half of the Twentieth Century. The exhibitions in the museum also showcase and promote works by lesser known and young artists. In a desire to grow as an institution the Whitney Museum of American Art opened a new position for an associate curator with experience in contemporary art. This curator will be joining the Whitney Museum at a crucial time in its history, as it prepares for the inauguration of its new building—designed by Renzo Piano—and the expansion of its programs. This position will contribute to the advancement of the museum's exhibition program, as it will center for the most part in the art of the last twenty years. The job description for this new post includes: - Proposing exhibitions and managing all phases of the projects. - Writing scholarly publications and texts. - Assisting with the development and growth of the collection, including acquisitions. - Participating in fundraising efforts. - Consulting on press and marketing initiatives. - Representing the museum by delivering lectures, participating in symposiums and in other ways that further the institution's mission. Candidate requirements: - M.A. in Art History. - Strong Knowledge of art from the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries. - Experience in international art from the last twenty years. - At least 5 years of experience as curator of exhibitions.
