V&A Wins Museum of the Year Award

The Victoria and Albert Museum has been named 2016 Museum of the Year, winning the United Kingdom's largest prize for the arts after judges applauded it for the "unforgettable experience" it offers visitors. Contributing especially to this experience is the museum's Alexander McQueen retrospective, its most visited show ever, and the opening of restored permanent galleries. The announcement was made by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, barely five minutes away from the V&A, just across the street from the Natural History Museum. According to Stephen Deuchar, director of the Art Fund and chair of judges, the V&A offers a journey through the ages like no other – it is mind-boggling, and touches the lives of everyone who steps into it. The museum has succeeded in making tremendous achievements – already being one of the most beloved museums in the country. Now, after all of its developments and new accolades, it is undoubtedly considered one of the best museums in the world by many. A reward of 100,000 Euros was given to the museum – the biggest prize in the world to be won by such an institution, as well as the largest arts prize to be awarded in the UK. The V&A holds its place in the upper echelon of the art world, in spite of waves of controversy that have come crashing their way. Though, none of these obstacles compare to the praise the V&A has received, and every one of its positive aspects and attributes was not overlooked. The Art Fund prize is awarded to museums big and small – the judges showing no discrimination in their decisions. The museum is undoubtedly impressive, and continues to flourish.
