Volume: The Passing Of Time and The Change Of Paradigm

Beginning on November 9, the Museu d'Art Contemporani - Barcelona (MACBA) presents the exhibition entitled Volume. The show will include works from the museum¿s collection and from the Fundación Caixa. It will propose a reflection on the role that the passing of the 20th and 21st Centuries have had in the changes in sensorial, material, and programmatic paradigms experienced by the art world. Curated by Bartomeu Marí and Antònia María Perelló, the exhibition will also question themes that establish a connection between the 1980s decade and the predominance of painting, as it will also underscore the relevance of photography and sculpture during that period. The exhibition will remain open to the public until April 2012. Volume represents the first exhibition jointly organized by the MACBA and the Fundación la Caixa, following the signing of an agreement between the two institutions in July, 2010. The works included in the collection of this museum in Barcelona do not follow a chronological or linear order, but attend to thematic axes and new narratives that connect the art of the past with contemporary art. MACBA and the Fundación "La Caixa" will continue to organize joint projects with the objective of contributing to increase the ability to generate knowledge and sensibility toward the most recent artistic manifestations, as well as to further the promotion of the new collection and of the role it plays in the international contemporary art scene.
