From September 23 to March 21, 2021, the Museo de la Universidad de Navarra presents a group of works by the renowned Brazilian artist Vik Muniz (1961). The exhibition organized between the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography, of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the Museo de la Universidad de Navarra, includes a selection of works that emphasize his latest series.
In his work, Muniz plays with images and objects to create works that transcend the mere photographic image to create new readings about reality and its representation. In this way, he reinterprets and rereads iconic universal masterpieces and family photographs that belong to his personal collection, using various materials without artistic characteristics or connotations, such as chocolate, waste and garbage objects, toys, and even for his latest works, bacterial microorganisms. This is the material with which he creates new images, generally, with a sculptural and three-dimensional character that does the outcome, which is always a photograph for Muniz.
The exhibition was also supported by the Pamplona City Council, the patron Gabriela Willson and the Galería Elba Benítez.
