Seventh Edition of the Luis Caballero Award

The seventh edition of the Luis Caballero Award presents eight proposals selected by Mario Opazo, Carlos Uribe and Rodrigo Moura.

The eight interventions will be presented in several points in the city of Bogota. The Instituto Distrital e las Artes – IDARTES, an entity within the Secretaría de Cultura, Recreación y Deporte, through the Gerencia de Artes Plásticas y Visuales, invited visual artists with medium or well-established artistic trajectories, to submit site-specific installation projects or artistic interventions for one of the spaces suggested by the institution or for one proposed by the artist.

The projects will be presented at the same time, from October 5 to November 2, 2013. The winning work of the Seventh Luis Caballero Award will be presented during the exhibition.

The Route of Caballero

One of this edition's novelties is The Route of Caballero: two walks that visitors can choose to visit the eight works: one goes through the eastern hills and the other through the Savanna.

The routes cover one of these two walks:

Easter Hills Route: it includes Plaza Distrital de Mercado de Las Cruces; Consuelo Gómez, Archivo de Bogotá; Manuel Quintero, Museo Iglesia Santa Clara; Carlos Castro and Museo de Arte Moderno in Bogota; and Sergio Giraldo.

Route of Savanna: it includes the Centro de Creación Contemporánea Textura; Mariana Varela, Museo de Arquitectura Leopoldo Rother; Fredy Alzate, Galería Santa Fe; María Adelaida López (in the special routes on Saturdays it is also possible to go to the Casa del Teatro Nacional José Alejandro Restrepo that opens at 8:00 pm and that is for adults only).

It is a free service offered by the Instituto Distrital de las Artes that makes buses available to visitors to reach the various places that contain the works. In order to participate, candidates must apply at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1HQgoEfQ9N-OJea5FkxMBO2wrVhsAcNro6 2ugkNUtRA08/viewform

The Luis Caballero Award was created in 1996 at the old institute Distrital de Cultura y Turismo (IDTC) with the goal of assessing the artistic offer through a grant for creation that would challenge usual artistic practices by works that considered the specific architectural landscapes of the exhibition spaces at the Galería Santa Fe. After six editions, the Luis Caballero Award has sharpened its focus to offer continuity to this emblematic contemporary art competition in Colombia. It is a reformulation that addresses the feedback and analysis generated during several work groups organized between 2011 and 2013—by the Gerencia de Artes Plásticas y Visuales of the Instituto Distrital de las Artes, IDARTES—with experts in the cultural field.
