Head Curators Announced for the 7th Mercosur Biennial

The Mercosur Biennial Foundation recently announced the names of the curators selected to head the seventh edition of that Biennale to take place in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Two candidates where chosen from approximately 67 to curate the event. They are, from Argentina, independent curator Victoria Noorthoorn, and Chilean curator Camilo Yáñez. Victoria Noothoorn has been in charge of several exhibitions in New York, São Paolo, and Santiago, Chile; she was also Chief Curator at the 29th Pontevedra Art Biennial in Spain (2006), and was additionally in charge of presenting Argentine artist León Ferrari at the 52nd International Venice Biennale (2007), at which Ferrari received an award . Camilo Yáñez is a well-known visual artist and curator who currently holds the position of visual arts coordinator for the Centro Cultural Matucana 100, one of South America¿s most active cultural centers. Following the principles stipulated by the Mercosur Biennial Foundation, this curatorial team will focus on themes such as education, communication, and social contributions. Participating artists will play a leading role in the organization of this event. They will form part of the curatorial team and will be charged with developing both the exhibits and the pedagogic and editorial projects in coordination with the chief curators, and will produce the Biennial¿s publications and audiovisual media. Some of the artist-curators already selected are: Pedagogic Curator: Marina De Caro (Argentina); Adjunct Curators: Roberto Jacoby (Argentina), Artur Lescher (Brazil), and Mario Navarro (Chile); Editorial Curators: Erik Beltrán (Mexico), and Bernardo Ortiz (Colombia).
