"Videobrasil Collection in Context #1"

On Saturday February 20, the Galpão Videobrasil begins its program of exhibitions for 2016 with the opening of the exhibition titled "Videobrasil Collection in Context #1." The show presents the results from the first edition of the Videobrasil in Context artist-in-residence project, which proposed to artists Cláudio Bueno (Brazil) and Mahmoud Khaled (Egypt) the creation of unpublished works based on their interaction with the Videobrasil Colección. The exhibition will also feature works that served as objects of research and conceptual references for Bueno's and Khaled's proposals. Some of the works referenced include videos by Akram Zaatari (Lebanon), Coco Fusco (US), Lucas Mambozzi (Brazil), and Wagner Morales (Brazil), among others. Inaugurated in 2015, the Galpão VB is an 800 square meter space located in the western area of São Paulo, designed for exhibitions, actions, reflections, encounters and research. It was conceived to activate its video collection—built over a period of more than three decades—from the activities organized by the Associação Cultural Videobrasil. Centered on the artistic production of countries that are in the world's geopolitical south, the collection includes works that participated in the SESC Videobrasil Contemporary Art Festival, works donated by artists, emblematic international video art works, recordings of performances, testimonies, documentaries, publications and documents; which altogether total almost 10,000 items, of which 4,500 have already been cataloged and are available for public consultation.
