Fundación Telefónica invites artists and creators from any nationality to participate in the international call VIDA 16.0 with proposals that offer innovative visions on the concept of artificial life in contemporary culture from the perspective of art, science and technology. The deadline to submit all the projects is July 31, 2014. With fifteen years of history so far and offering a total purse of 82,000 euros in prizes, the event introduces a new category this year: the Pioneers Prize, created to recognize the work of those artists who have contributed to a new way of understanding creation through the alliance of art, science and technology. Candidates must fill out the application form that is available online at: http://vida.fundaciontelefonica.com/blog/abierta-la-convocatoria-vida-16-0/ For the Pioneers Prize, a panel of experts—designated by Fundación Telefónica and the board of VIDA—will recognize the work of a creator with a consolidated artistic trajectory with a purse of 12,000 euros. The Finished Project Prize is offered with the goal of getting insight into the latest developments in the field of art and artificial life. Only works that were created within the last two years will be accepted. The jury will grant three awards in this category: First Prize, with a purse of 12,000 euros; Second Prize, with a purse of 10,000 euros; and the People's Choice Award, with a purse of 6,000 euros. On top of these three prizes, there will be eight Honorable Mentions from which the People's Choice Award will be selected. The Incentives for Production Prizes aims at helping the financing of not-yet- completed artistic projects centered on artificial life. These prizes are exclusively for nationals or permanent residents of Spain, Portugal or any country in Latin America. One of the awarded proposals will be additionally granted the Telefónica R+D Incentive Prize—introduced in the previous edition of the event—which consists of a one month stay in 2016 at the Telefónica Research and Development department, in Barcelona.
