Vicky Newman and Óscar Murillo

Commissioned by the Museo de Arte of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and under the curatorship of María Belén Sáez de Ibarra, the Museo presents two concurrent exhibitions: "Youth without Divine Treasure" by artist Vicky Newman and "Conditions yet to Be Titled" by artist Óscar Murillo. Both exhibitions will be open to the public from March 11 through July 4 of 2015.
"Youth without Divine Treasure" by artist Vicky Newman resorts to painting and reaffirms it as a contemporary expressive medium that generates a relationship between the space and the social context. The installation measures 120 meters wide by 4 meters high (393.70 feet wide by 13.12 feet high). It invites participants to construct stories through the piece. "It explores the feelings of frustration of young people, their fears, life interactions within a growing digital environment, their dreams and liquid loves; the chaos that they must face in a world globalized by power with the few guaranties that we have left them with: an depleted planet, a society inundated with garbage and a socio-economic system completely adrift." "Conditions yet to Be Titled" is the first show presented by Murillo in his country of birth and represents the culmination of one year of work. Through installation, painting, performance and sculptural objects, Murillo explores the conditions of the contemporary working class. The artist will present a performance in which workers have been hired to participate. The pieces resulting from the process of production will become part of the exhibition.
