Sixth International Seminar on Public Art in Latin America

Organized by GEAP Latinoamérica (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) and the Instituto de Investigaciones Museológicas y Artísticas (IIMAURP), Universidad Ricardo Palma, Peru, the Sixth International Seminar on Public Art in Latin America will be held on November 27, 28 and 29 of 2019 at the Centro Cultural of the Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima, Peru. The seminar will address highly relevant questions in recent years concerning the most traditional and sculptural forms in the field of public art centered on the permanence of some historic characters depicted in commemorative monuments. The total or partial destruction of monuments has been a constant throughout history given their predominant use as images of power. Historians, artists, architects, geographers, and any other researches interested in this field, are invited to submit papers that explore the question of time in the creation and reception of public art for the Sixth International Seminar on Public Art in Latin America. The workshops are: 1.Statues of Discord: Displacement, Appropriation and Destruction of Monuments and Statues. 2.Contemporary Monuments and Anti-Monuments: New Forms of Memory and the Occupation of the Public Space. 3.Creation, Destruction, and Reappropriation of Murals and Graffiti. 4.Challenges in the Conservation of Ephemeral Works: Performance, Community Actions and other Ephemeral Artistic Interventions. 5.Controversial Places: Dynamics of Restoration and Maintenance of Permanently Intervened Works. 6.Public Policies and the Constitution of Landscape in Urban Centers.
