A residency for Cuban artists in Paris

The Bernard Grau Foundation of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris aims to support Cuban artists by offering a six-month creative residency at the Cité International des Arts in the heart of the French capital. Each year, the scholarship will be awarded to two artists working in two disciplines corresponding to the sections of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institut de France: painting, sculpture, architecture, engraving and drawing, musical composition, free members, cinematographic creations, photography, and choreography.
Created in 2022 by Roger Herrera, deputy director of the Academy, the foundation aims to support Cuban artists while paying tribute to Bernard Grau (1949-2020), a French diplomat who concluded his career as Counselor for Culture and Cooperation at the French Embassy in Havana. The first edition was dedicated to the Painting and Architecture sections. The beneficiaries were artist Gabriela Ruiz Pez and the architecture collective Ad Urbis (Kiovet Sanchez, Samuel Puentes, and Celia Garcia), who are still in residence.
Subsequent editions will be dedicated to the remaining sections. Each selected artist must present a project to be developed during the six-month residency. A jury composed of the institutions' representatives chooses the two laureates who will come to Paris each year. At the end of the residency, the artists must show the result of their work during their stay in the French capital.
