Tunga: Yo, Vos y la Luna (me, you, and the moon)

Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires-MALBA has inaugurated "Yo, Vos y la Luna" by the artist Tunga, an exhibition curated by María Amalia García and Nancy Rojas. The last time the work of the Brazilian artist was presented in Buenos Aires was 25 years ago, and this show aims to rediscover his legacy. The title comes from the main work, "Yo, Vos y la Luna," one of Tunga's last creations in which, through stones, mirrors, glass bottles, and plaster, he explores themes related to visual memory and the duality between the organic and the artificial.
In addition to the main installation, the exhibition will include a 2015 documentary of the same name, as well as a series of 36 drawings from the Instituto Tunga. These additional works allow for a deeper exploration of his artistic vision, providing context and examining how the artist understood concepts such as "continuity" and "transformation."
Tunga, born in 1952 in Palmares, Pernambuco, and passed away in 2016, was an interdisciplinary artist who integrated a variety of media into his work, including sculpture, installation, video, and performance. His work was characterized by the combination of diverse materialities and unconventional media, producing surreal sensory experiences that addressed themes such as the relationship between the body and space, as well as the mystical power of objects.
The exhibition will be open to visitors from October 25, 2024, to February 17, 2025, at MALBA, located at Av. Pres. Figueroa Alcorta 3415, C1425CLA, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
