Transcultural Pilgrim: Three Decades of Work by José Bedia

Through January 8th, 2012, the Fowler Museum at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is presenting Transcultural Pilgrim: Three Decades of Work by José Bedia. The show includes paintings, installations, and drawings and, presenting a large compilation of works from the last thirty years. The first section comprises 8 works that reveal the artist's spirituality, connected to the Afro-Cuban religion of Palo Monte, which he practices since 1983. The second section focuses on characters and chronicles of Latin America, with reference to religion, rituals, and social activism. Finally, there are three large paintings that take African art as their subject. Also included is Momentos de inspiración, three objects from Bedia's private collection, which he defines as inspirational for his entire oeuvre.
