Tomas Saraceno

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Monterrey, Mexico, presents the first exhibition by Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno in Latin America. Titled "Tomás Saraceno. One Hundred Sixty-Three Thousand Light Years," the exhibition will remain open to the public until November 26 of 2016. Under the curatorship of Gonzalo Ortega, "Tomás Saraceno. One Hundred Sixty-Three Thousand Light Years" consists of 15 installations in which Saraceno conveys a curiosity about the origin of the cosmos inspired by astronomy and astrophysics. "Membrane Theory" is one of the referents for the development of his pieces. It consists of research involving studies on gravity in multidimensional settings to explain the essential forces of nature. This theoretical model is represented as a plane and multiple knots. By exerting pressure in one of these knots, the plane curves and affects the entire system. It is a chain reaction that from a critical, poetic, and political perspective allows for an understanding of the role that each person plays in the construction of the future. While the systems generated by Saraceno could be considered utopian, the result erases the boundaries between scientific, political and creative thought.
