The Other Trans-Atlantic. Kinetic and Op Art in Eastern Europe and Latin America 1950s - 1970s

After its debut at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the exhibition "The Other Trans-Atlantic. Kinetic and Op Art in Eastern Europe and Latin America 1950s - 1970s" will be presented at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, March 17 to May 9, 2018. It is the first major kinetic and Op art exhibition in the country. The exhibition examines a brief yet historically significant moment in the post-war era during which artists from Eastern Europe and Latin America cultivated a shared enthusiasm for Kinetic and Op Art. The project gathers more than one hundred artworks from the postwar period to the end of the 1970s, including kinetic sculptures, paintings, drawings, films, and installations, as well as unique archival material. Carlos Cruz-Diez specially created a monumental ephemeral artwork for the Atrium of the Museum. Environnement d'Induction Chromatique Moscou fills the floors and the walls to create a visual stimulus that will transform each walk across the museum's lobby into a unique experience. After the presentation at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow, the exhibition will be traveling to São Paulo, to open at the SESC, a Center of Social Commerce with a strong cultural and educational project. The exhibition will be on view from July 25, 2018 to September 30, 2018.
