The open call organized by Elda Villena and Ernesto Muñoz seeks to create an on-line net where artists from several Latin-American countries can send their works to weave a blanket that will be displayed for viewing online. This project has been prompted by Ingrid Betancourt¿s kidnapping and the words she sent her mother in a proof-of- life letter, in which she condemns people¿s indifference. Organizers attempt for art to play a social role by means of this work. Among the artist participating in this project inspired by pre-Columbian motifs, are Matilde Pérez, who initiated the design; pianist Roberto Bravo, the Museum of Fine Arts of Montevideo¿s director Jacqueline Lacasa (winner of the Cuenca Biennale in Ecuador), Matilde Marín, and Peruvian painters Ramiro Llona and Bruno Zeilli, as well as Matilde Huidobro, who sent a mobile heart that allows spectator interaction with the work.
