Tania Candiani: The Restorer

Until August 15, the Museo Jumex, as part of the Normal Exceptions program, presents the exhibition "Tania Candiani: The Restorer."
"La Restauradora" tells the story of Mexico City over eight centuries from the perspective of a geographical location in the heart of the city. This physical space was the scene and witness of changing landscapes and constructions that rose and collapsed between moments of apogee or conflict.
In this work, the artist, through colors, descriptions, and sounds, narrates the development of Mexico by recreating the color palette that would have been used in the pictorial representation of some of the most significant changes since the founding of Tenochtitlan in the 14th century to the present day. At the coordinates 19°26'07.0″N 99°07'55.2″W, where the Centro Cultural Seminario 12 is located in Mexico City, taking as a point of view the main entrance and considering the pigments that existed at the time. In the video, we see the preparation of each color needed to paint the picture described in words.
On display in the gallery are the godetes and palettes used for the documented video for the exhibition, demonstrating the changes in materials and shapes of these tools over time.
"Tania Candiani: La Restauradora" is the second of two solo exhibitions at gallery -1 as part of Normal Exceptions.
This project was realized in collaboration with Gerardo Zapata Faria and Ollin Miranda, and with the special participation of María Eugenia Marín.
