From September 20 through September 22 the Artistic Creation Workshop Incidences from the Private to the Public and from the Public to the Private will be held at the Fundación NMAC (Montenmedio Arte Contemporáneo, Vejer de la Frontera. Cadiz). The workshop aims at offering young artists the opportunity to be exposed to experiences that encourage their creativity.
Working alongside Wifredo Prieto, a maximum of 30 students will be able to delve into and develop their own creative work, as they reflect on the conceptualization of a project that blurs the boundaries between the public and private realms.
This free workshop—travel and lodging expenses will be covered by the participants—has been organized by the Subdirección General de Promoción de las Bellas Artes of the Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte and the Fundación NMAC.
Conceptual Solidity
The work of Wilfredo Prieto stands out for his conceptual solidity, concise narrative, the absence of superfluous elements, recurrent references and for the artistic practice itself; a delicate sense of humor, back and forth semantic plays and an equally persistence and subtle poetic.
Prieto lives and works between Havana and New York. He studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana and was a member of the Galería DUPP (Spanish acronym that stands for From a Pedagogical Pragmatism), an artist group in ISA. In 2000, during the 7th Havana Biennial, Prieto and the group received the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts and, in 2006, he was granted the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, in New York. He has completed artistic residencies in the Kadist Art Foundation, in Paris (2005), and in the Residency Program at Le Grand Café in Saint-Nazaire, France (2007).
