Arte Útil is a research project developed by Tania Bruguera in collaboration with the Migrant People's Party throughout 2013. The workshop of the same name intends to works with experiences directed towards the implementation of art in society and as a site from which to generate proposals and put into practice possible solutions.
The workshop will explore the category of "useful art" from a holistic point of view, involving artistic and educational work as well as curatorship. It will also work with the different art initiatives on the basis of taking into account their ability to challenge normative environments and respond to social situations, ethical responsibility, sustainability, and the capacity to reestablish the art field as a system for social transformation.
This is the first of two workshops organized by lesson 0 with the A*DESK program of study. Lesson 0 is a transversal project designed and conceived by Azotea (Juan Canela and Ane Agirre) for Espai 13 of the Fundació Joao Miró.
The A*DESK program revolves around a specialized education in contemporary art. Its 2013-2014 edition is coordinated by Oriol Fontdevila and is titled Zombies, Frankenstein and The Pink Panther.
The workshop, directed by Cuban artist Tania Bruguera, will be held
On January 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2014, 3-8 pm. Registration cost is €170.
