Taiyana Pimentel Assumes as Director of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey - MARCO

Starting on September 2, the prestigious Monterrey Museum will have as its director the Cuban-born Taiyana Pimentel, previously at the helm of Sala de Arte Público David Alfaro Siqueiros/La Tallera, where she did important work in the programming and presentation of exhibitions, and gave new impulse to the La Tallera space by means of its reconceptualization. Pimentel’s goal is to bring the museum team and its board of trustees together in a joint effort.

“From the General Direction of MARCO, I hope to drive the formation of collections, research, and the coexistence of local and international talent with the possibility of presenting global exhibition where Mexican artists may play a central role,” said Pimentel, a graduate in Art History from Universidad de la Habana and UNAM, with a specialization in Museums.

Among Taiyana Pimentel’s curatorial projects are “No Lone Zone”, a collaboration between Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros and Tate Modern, London-Mexico City; “Project for Ecatepec (Wound)”, Teresa Margolles, Jumex Collection Foundation; “1549 Crimes of State”, Santiago Sierra, Centro Cultural Tlatelolco; “Bridge”, Francis Alÿs, Havana-Key West; “Tijuana Sessions (Contemporary Art from Tijuana)”, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Alcalá 31, Madrid.
