Tadáskía Wins the K21 Global Art Award 2025

The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen has announced Brazilian artist Tadáskía as the winner of the third edition of the K21 Global Art Award. The recognition includes the acquisition of her site-specific installation brincando animada: travesti mariposa centopeia (2025) by the Friends of the Museum.
The work, conceived specifically for the exhibition space, combines a semi-abstract wall drawing, a poem inscribed in both German and English, and a series of sculptures made from vegetables, fruits, liquids, bamboo, and taboa—a plant traditionally used by Afro-Indigenous communities in Latin America.
Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1993, Tadáskía’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses drawing, painting, sculpture, and video, exploring themes such as transformation, self-perception, and Afro-transgender cosmologies. Her work has been exhibited in major international institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the 35th Bienal de São Paulo.
The international jury that selected the artist included Doryun Chong, Omar Kholeif, Jochen Volz, and the late Koyo Kouoh. According to Susanne Gaensheimer, Director of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, the award aims to expand the museum’s collection with young, diverse, and international voices.
The exhibition K21 Global Art Award 2025 will be on view in Düsseldorf from October 10, 2025, to October 1, 2026.
