Susana Espinosa

Susana Espinosa ¿ceramist, sculptor, painter and teacher¿ was born in Argentina in 1933 and lives in Puerto Rico since 1968. Her incursion in Puerto Rican ceramics, reside her husband Bernardo Hogan, have been vital to the development of this media in Puerto Rico. Most young ceramists have been her pupils. She did murals for many years for several factories, homes, hotels and audiences; her last work, for Estación del Tren Urbano de Hato Rey and for Parque Muñoz Rivera. Espinosa molded one of her characteristic heads and sent it to a foundation. This one is the first bronze head the artist has made; and so she starts with a new phase of sculptures in this media. For Espinosa clay had been an extraordinary material, a known and conquered territory. Now she has the challenge before her of getting familiar with a new material and enters into an unknown territory she must absorb.
