Spencer Tunick, prominent US artist-photographer of large groups of people in the nude, will work in Colombia for the first time as part of the initiative #Mequitolaropapor, organized by the Museo de Arte Moderno in Bogota and Diageo Colombia, with the objective of uniting Colombians under a common cause: to become free from prejudices and labels in order to move forward towards a better future. According to Tunick: "We want to involve people that reflect the diversity in Colombia and who want to participate in the extraordinary experience of contributing to the creation of a contemporary work of art. Also, on this occasion, the project becomes even more interesting with the expectation that the challenge serves to demonstrate that the country can move forward united through art." According to Claudia Hakim, director of MAMBO, to achieve this photograph in the capital of Colombia, "The work developed by Spencer Tunick in Bogota has been carefully planned, given that it entails coordinating the participation of hundreds of lively Colombians willing to contribute to the creation of a work of art in a space where nudity speaks of freedom, transformation and change." Thus, the museum invites everybody (entrepreneurs, students, workers, politician, social leaders, etc.) to become momentarily free from labels and participate in this work to advance a society that, while combative at times, is nonetheless united under a common vision: a better future for Colombia. If the past divided us, then the future can unite us. After successful installations in emblematic places in Mexico City, Barcelona, Santiago, Montreal, São Paulo, London, Vienna, and other cities, Bogota will become the next destination for Spencer Tunick, where he expects to gather more than one thousand people for his artistic project. All Colombians will be able to express their opinions in social networks with the hashtag #Mequitolaropapor. Anyone wishing to participate may apply online between now and June 4 at:
www.mambogota.com/tunick. Tunick will give all participants a limited printed edition of the photograph of the day. Information about the exact place and time of the installation will be announced to the participants one week before the event.
